Mosman Public School offers a comprehensive Mandarin language program for all students K-6. All students K-6 have one lesson per week, with 3 extension classes operating for students in years 3 to 6. This program is formulated using the proposed National Curriculum and has two broad aims. The first is to ensure that students become proficient in the four areas of language learning i.e. Reading, Writing, Listening and Speaking. The second is to promote a broader understanding of local and overseas Chinese communities. In targeting these two objectives, we are engaging with our local high school and the broader school community. Mosman High School, where many of our students will attend, has taught Mandarin for a number of years and has a Confucius Classroom. We have a relationship with a sister school in Jingshan China with a view to promoting language learning and cultural exchange.
